Redesign and Remodel

This redesign and remodel was a model home for the subdivision in the 1960’s. The house style is essentially a rambling split level.  It hadn’t been remodeled at all before this project.

We added several windows, doors, and custom features to this house.  During the redesign, we reworked the kitchen and main floor circulation patterns.  We did this by closing off a pass-thru opening, where the new stove now sits, and installing the interior french doors you see in the pictures below.

This house has a formal living room, a comfortable den downstairs, and a chef’s kitchen.  The kitchen cabinets spill into the dining room, and tie the spaces together.  The upper cabinets have display style doors for seasonal dishes and tabletop necessities, while still providing lots of storage and counter space below.

The Oregon flagstone patio just off the dining room, as well as retaining walls around the edges of the back yard, were all part of the scope of work.

Finished Remodel Images

This remodel also included the floor and counter tile as well as the hardwood flooring shown in these images.

Design Scales also provided the interior stair railing design and installation.  The railing posts are red oak stained to match the flooring, and the metal portion of the railing is weathered copper tubing.

Getting a patina on the copper was one of the challenges of this project.   We revisited these materials for a stair railing in another house a couple years later.  This post shows the other project and the next version of this technique.
