Floor and Shower Tile Installation

This could be categorized as an apartment maintenance project, or small apartment remodel, that included a tile floor and shower tile installation.

We were contacted after the tenants moved out of this one bedroom in the greenlake neighborhood north of downtown Seattle.  The vinyl flooring in the kitchen and bathroom needed to be removed, as well as the leaking tile around the shower.  You can see from these before pictures how badly things needed to be updated.

Since tile is such a durable option for a rental property, the owner picked out several styles for the kitchen floor and shower tile.  They picked a 12″ x 24″ style for the kitchen floor tile.  At the bathroom floor, we installed 1″ square tiles.  For the shower surround we installed 12″ x 4″ white porcelain subway tile.  After some debate, we ended up finishing the top edge with a 2″ x 4″ bullnose.  The floors and shower have the same color grout, Delorean Gray.†

The trickiest part of the tile shower surround was getting around the window and lining everything up.

These pictures show the finished product including the “bullnose” (the curved tile at the top edge).
